Its been a common problem for me lately where I cannot focus on art unless the lights are off. 8)

I think its because I have problems seeing details on the screen. Kinda feeling weird about it, but at least it kicked the lack of motivation I was sporting previously.

Hnnnng I'm getting ideas for Skitters and exploring more forms than just galaxy void bird and what he needs to look like him and just..... Pen and paper is not fucking cutting it. I need my desktop for this shit and i don't get off of work for another hour (probably closer to two).

how tf do you study fashion for character design cause I really gotta but I have no clue where to even start

a lady i follow on tumblr described her process and basically she says you should

a) learn about different terms for specific styles like "bohemian" or "punk" that relate to your characters' personality or your idea of their style so you know what to search for,

b) collect all related/similar terms to those styles and keep them save somewhere so you know what the range in terms there is, and

c) build a reference folder of clothes in those styles to either take inspiration form or use wholesale, since it's not uncommon for artists to just use actual clothing-- i think the sailor moon manga is pretty well known for just using runway looks for the villains. she also said that pinterest, while overall terrible, is a good site for this since it has a big fashion scene and you can make individual pages for each character to pin things too. if you don't want to use it though you can also literally just go to actual clothing websites and save/take screenshots of the clothing you like in that category and save it to a folder on your computer.

@star-rice

that honestly means so much to me! i'm gonna post a bunch today and over the weekend because it's a bit more work that i expected but it should be totally ready to go soon and then i'll just make new listings as i post stuff on here

but if you do end up deciding to buy anything just let me know which ones because i'd for sure give you a better deal for buying multiples!

the idea of someone wanting to put any of my photos on their wall is kinda making me tear up a little bit :')

Selling art isn't just for people who went to art school and put their shit in galleries. I want that home grown passion driven shit you can't find in a retail store it at an auction.

naiad -

tbh almost all of my favorite artists are just people who do it for fun first and also sometimes sell prints and you're right that there's a certain kind of passion and love for things that you don't always get with professional or super staged things.

i have an extra room i'm going to arrange soon once my job opens up and i plan on filling it up with so much friend art :D

Dude, hella big same. I'm hoping Thell can get that printer business sorted out because theres so much art here that I'd love to order off here and its incredibly relieving to know how much is to WF, how much is for making/processing/shipping, and how much my lovely artist gets. If this actually goes through well, I'm gonna go buck wild each paycheck I swear.

I have a vaulted ceiling in my bedroom. I have so much wall space. 8)

God, I've just been so uninspired in my own artistic passions lately. And it kinda sucks bc I know I'm going to have more time now. And i guess I have to find that shit again? Idk. Its real weird to think about, but I just dont have the want to pick up a pen. I want to be productive! I feel like being productive! I just. Don't want to create. And that sucks :(

"I know that feeling all to well. Sometimes it helps me to just slap some paint around in no particular fashion"

Yeah, I've done that before, but half the time it doesn't turn out quite how I like (mostly bc I'm working digitally 95% of the time, this goes better with traditional). But I was thinking of different styles, processes and such and seeing what my brain liked best. I found it didn't mind a certain type of art I used to do a shit load of back in the day for a website I used to be an artist for, which, coincidentally, I still have some owed art for, so I just opened up one of those pieces and worked out where I left off on it. It was shading, so not like, my favorite, but it needs less of a warm up than say, inking. So I went with that and got a decent way in. I was able to hash out some layering techniques I'd previously been undecided on since I'm looking at it a couple months later with fresh eyes.

There's probably a deeper discussion to be had about why I enjoy this style so much and find it incredibly frustrating trying to branch out into other styles, but Im a little too tired for that one. Innovating on the style I am most familiar with works for now.

holy fuck its like an entirely different piece without the shading layer wtfff

At work and feeling creative. Not sure what for! But I'm feeling it!

I'm just glad that I don't have the ability to sit down and do anything with it bc I know if just be frozen with "oh man, I want draw, but no ideas" and that'd suck. So who knows.

I was kinda feeling sitting down and doing some paint studies, but I need my computer for that and idk what my evening is looking like. Def can't do that at work.

I do need to actually get some photos and put them away for this explicit purpose so when I do have time, want and energy, I can jump straight into it.

haha you know that thing when someone compliments a specific thing abt your art and its just. pure joy

angelina-hr -

"Hm, it's too bad there don't seem to be any art memes or ask games focused on art going around on waterfall," I say, making no effort to think of something myself.

star-rice -

I would have to participate if we came up with any art memes :> just sayin

So I'm sketching traditionally (bc am work) and using my phone to pull reference photo.

I legitimately leaned down to go back to sketching and moved my fingers on the paper like one would do to zoom into an image on their phone.

Needless to say, the drawing stayed the same size.

I don't have a sketch (bc am work), but I started another owlcat.

I have a (short) list of birds to take inspiration from, so I started up a babe that's a barn owl with owl finch markings bc ofc I did.

I'm about half mad bc last night I was thinking about how I usually get the majority of my inspiration for OCs from birds and not cats and came up with a pretty good idea for one that was way more cat inspired but when I woke up I had forgotten and I haven't been able to remeber all day. Ughhhghg

Creators when they try out new art supplies

I'm very much stuck between "I can only crochet at work" and "a larger project I want to start is not only big but will require a lot of attention, trial/error and modification, ie something only suitable for home".

I'm big excited to one day soon have a living room with furniture that I would feel comfortable on since my problem presently is that crochetting in bed is a back pain nightmare and crochetting at my computer is both ineffective and uncomfortable (and I usually will only if I have a pattern best accessed from my desktop instead of my phone).

I miss having a chair that would attempt to eat me while I grow more and more absorbed in my project and the furniture.
